Use Elastography with Strain Ratio in Solid Thyroid Nodule
A 60-year-old female with a history of breast cancer. Presents thyroid nodule of approx: 1.32 X 0.91 cm, is echogenic, surrounded by a small anechogenic halo. This nodule was already biopsied 1 year ago with a negative result for malignancy.
Color Doppler shows increased peripheral and internal nodule flow. Elastography shows a color pattern with an Ueno score of 2 which suggests a benign lesion, compatible with the histological analysis of the sample taken 1 year ago. We take the strain ratio of the nodule in comparison with the normal surrounding thyroid tissue and this analysis yields a figure of 2.77 which we consider borderline since the cut-off point for thyroid lesions is (2 + -)
